Brogden - Story

During the kite flight competitions of the British Royal Aeronautical Society at the beginning 20. Century often won a kite of Charles Brogden. The Design is a mixture from a Roloplan and an Eddy. As collecting main served me also here a structural drawing from [2]. Here to the three connectors which can be made of aluminum were complicated. Although Mr. Brogden did not use at that time probably such connectors for its kites, we decided for this variant, since Uwe had the possibility of letting the connectors in its enterprise manufacture. As covering we took Spinnakernylon (42gr/m²). The structural drawing was scaled in such a way that the three transverse staffs amounted to 2m, 1.5m and 1m. The span is thus approximately 4m with a pipe diameter of 14mm (carbon). I extended the design still with an additional contrast strip.

The trim of the balance was remarkable. Shortening a right balance thigh entails a change of flight to the left?! Normally the experience teaches that the kite would have to then fly also to the right. Up to some restrictions (see Experiences) we are very content with the result. Since Uwe let several connectors make for security, we decided to build itself still two Brogden. This time I changed however the angle at the material parts of the head, so that they could not be pressed into the flight so to the rear. Now there four.

In the week to the international kite festival in Fanoe 2003 we had then one evening a beautiful experience. We celebrated the first flight of my second Brogden, and had all four kites in the sky, when further kite fliers associated with us. Since they had likewise built several Brogden, we could persuade them these from their holiday house to get and with us rise let.
